First tip is on content. A blog without content is not much of a blog. But this doesn’t mean that once you put something on it you’re done. A blog has to be updated regularly. The more content that your blog contains the more popular it will become. My personal rule of thumb is to try to update each of my blogs at least once a week. That way, at the end of a year, you’ve got at least 52 articles on your blog. This will be more than enough to get it moving up the search engines…especially if the content is well written.
Second tip is on pinging. This is something that you have to be very careful with. The pinging services frown on bloggers who ping their blogs every few minutes. This can end up getting you in trouble for spamming. When that happens, your blog gets tagged as a spam blog and the search engines don’t even list you any longer. The best course of action as far as pinging is to only ping your blog after each update and never more than once per day, no matter how many times you’ve updated your blog that day. Ping your blog after the very last update and that’s it.
The final tip is on tags. Many blogs today have no follow tags because they don’t want other people’s links to be followed by the search engines. This is really stupid because it discourages people from posting to your blog. If you don’t use no follow tags, other marketers or those interested in your niche will post their comments to your blog. This will further increase the popularity of your blog. The good thing is, most blogs by default come with follow tags so you won’t have to do anything.
There is no question that blogging is popular and beneficial to marketers. Follow the simple tips above and you should have no trouble creating a blog that will become popular and profitable.
