You would not want that, right?

Well, I have seen a lot of people who have been delisted by Google because of mishaps caused by people who do not know that some lines should not be crossed. Unfortunately, there is nothing much that you can do with these people. What you can do something about is the security of your WordPress blogs.

I am pretty sure you would not want all the effort you have exerted to your WordPress to just go to waste, correct? So since you have already been exerting so much effort on you internet marketing business, might as well protect it so that no one else can benefit from the products of your labor.

How exactly are you going to do that? Well, there are several things that you have to be very concerned about. I am not really a WordPress security expert and I am not posing as one. Although, the following are the methods which I have personally tried and so does others of my internet marketing colleagues. It is proven to work and keep our WordPress materials from being taken away.

The following techniques are effective in making the lives of the hackers a little more complicated. These techniques will hide the contents of your WordPress.

One thing to remember though is that, before you even start on installing or implementing any of the techniques below, make sure that you have a working back up for the contents. Please do not skip in doing the back up. Better safe than sorry…

So let us get into the real action, shall we? Here are the methods of keeping your WordPress safe from intruders.

1. Get to know more about the plug-ins that you use before installing them

Whatever plug in you would choose to install in your WordPress, make sure that the author of this is worth trusting. Third party plug-ins can get access to your blog so be sure that you really know which plug ins are rightful and which ones are not exactly trustworthy. Do not just install plug-ins because others are using. The important thing to know id if the people who are also using the same plug ins do not experience any trouble with it. Another thing to look into is the updating of the newer versions for the plug ins. It is better if you seek the opinion of someone who has tried the plug in for quite some time.

2. Keep your WordPress version up to date

If you have been using WordPress for quite some time, maybe you better make sure that the version that you are using is the latest one. There is a good possibility that the version which you have installed a long time ago have already been succeeded by a newer version. I know it can sometimes get tasking when you need to upgrade the version that you are using but believe me, this is for your advantage. Initial version usually have software glitches, errors or bugs that need to be eradicated that is why they usually come up with updated versions. Sometimes, there are major upgrades that happens so keep the version you are using up to date so that you too will be able to enjoy the one with less problems. It should not be too difficult to always get updated with the latest version of WordPress because the admin dashboard allows you to see the latest announcement when it comes to the new releases.

3. Instead of having “admin” account change it to admin

Hackers definitely knows that for every account there is always an “admin” account which allows extensive access to the WordPress account. Change this and make it difficult for hackers to get into the insides of your WordPress. Note that the admin user has to be different from tha usual author of posts.

4. Protect you admin interface in the WordPress at the server level.

The main purpose of this is to be able to protect your WordPress administration are with an extra security layer.

5. Change the names of your WordPress database tables

You can do this by utilizing the table prefix plug ins. Another choice is to consult the manual instructions.

6. Do not expose your plug in directory to people

You can do this by adding an empty default index file to the directory. Or if you are using Apache, you can also use an .htaccess file to hide it. It is important to be able to hide the plug inst that are installed because this might be exploited and used to hack your account.

7. wordPress Security Scan

Through the WordPress security scan you can check on the security of your blog and also if the things you have implemented are running. There is also another option for you which is a scan plug in offered by Blogsecurity.net.

So hopefull through those simple techniques you will be able to avoid hackers to take get their hands on your WordPress account. It is better if you do not wait before they do unwanted things to your site, it is not a good thing.

Before we actually end this, let us deal first with the problem of others who have been banned by Google. Well, it is not really the end of the world yet (more particularly, the end of your site). There is still a way to put a solution to this.

First, know what caused this problem. Discover the reason which lead to this and look for the aspect wherein things went wrong. When you have already seen it, remove it from your account. Before you even think of just updating plug ins and themes just to put a quick solution, I am telling you do not settle with this. Doing only that may not exactly eradicate the problem.

Once your blog is back to living according to the standards of Google, access Google Webmaster Tools account and file a re-inclusion request. Make it short but explains the series of vents. Inform them also that you have already done the necessary action to solve it. As long as you have a good history with Google, and they realize that it was not really your own doing that became a problem, you will be back on track in no time.
